TLC for dry winter hands

Beauty · Self Care

Cold winter air along with home heating can be drying to the skin, especially hands. Not to mention we are washing our hands more frequently due to flu and virus season. For these reasons, hands can become irritated, raw, dry, cracked, parched, and chapped. Ouch! There is no need to suffer endlessly with dry chapped hands as there is an effective solution to help heal and restore them; soft and rash free for the rest of the season.

To ease dryness, help prevent cracking, chapping and/or infection try my overnight solution with these hand nourishing steps:
  • Gently wash chapped hands in warm (not hot) water using a sensitive skin cleanser such as Dove soap bar.
  • Finish with a cool rinse then gently pat (almost) dry with a soft towel.
  • While hands are still moist spray on frankincense or Helichysum hydrosol. Let soak in for a couple of minutes. Either hydrosol proves very healing for the skin along with offering antibacterial properties which can help prevent infection of cracked skin.
  • Top with a layer of organic aloe gel (either directly from a leaf, or a purchased gel)
  • After the gel has absorbed a little spread a thick layer of moisturizing cream all over hands. Massage hands for a few minutes (feels wonderful!) applying more cream as necessary. Consider Epionce Medical Barrier Cream for this step, it is amazing. I personally love and use it everyday during the winter months It is also wonderful for dry skin on face and body.
  • Top with rich raw shea butter to lock in moisture.
  • Ease on cotton gloves and wear them for a few hours (or all night).

In no time your hands will be feeling (and looking) much better! Below are a few things I personally use and love.

Inspiration for the season… As the seasons change Inspiration for the season…

As the seasons change and days fold into night, there’s a gentle shift all around us. Nature takes on vivid shades of deep russet, amber, and brown. There is something about this change that creates a more serene atmosphere, perhaps even a bit mysterious.

I don’t usually lean into the spooky side of the season, but I do love small touches inspired by autumn. Rich textures and warm colors sprinkled here and there, bring in just enough seasonal charm — without the need to redecorate the entire home.

In this month’s edit, I’m sharing a collection of thoughtfully chosen finds that capture the warmth, beauty, and timeless charm of autumn. The result is a classic, inviting atmosphere that never goes out of style.

This little bookmark is very easy to create as a gift to yourself or tuck into a card for a friend. The sentiment is an excerpt from this month's reflection; a gentle reminder to trust God.

A Quiet Pause October has a way of reminding us t A Quiet Pause

October has a way of reminding us to notice what won't be here for long. As the new season rolls in, flowers display final blooms, leaves reach their peak of autumn color, the last of homegrown tomatoes are harvested, geese fly high overhead in a V-formation pointing south, warm air makes way for cooler brisk breezes and the reach for a warm blanket.

With a soulful nod, we pause to notice moments such as these, and somehow they feel more precious. In witnessing these changes, there is something solemn yet hopeful at the same time. Is this possibly a gentle wink from God? A reminder to pause and reflect? Nature seems to whisper that nothing here stays quite the same. Flowers fade, the leaves fall, and one season quietly gives way to another.

Perhaps there is something to be learned in that. What if these small endings are invitations to let go, and to trust what comes next? Maybe the real beauty of a fleeting moment is found partly in knowing that it cannot be held forever--trusting that every ending opens an opportunity for something beautifully new.

This week I made a deliciously sweet and savory yellow pear tomato jam. It's wonderful spread on crusty bread and as a side to roasted chicken.

Enjoy!
